ETA in R1.5m audio visual contract with Monash University

Johannesburg, 17 May 2001

Monash South Africa, the local campus of Australian-based Monash University, has concluded a R1.5 million consulting, installation and maintenance agreement with ETA Audiovisual for projection and presentation solutions.

The first phase of the project includes equipping three lecture theatres and seven classrooms with audiovisual equipment supplied by ETA.

Monash IT manager Jamie Sunderland said ETA Audiovisual was awarded the contract following an extensive tender process based on ETA`s 30 years of expertise and experience in providing quality audio visual solutions and support to educational institutions. "ETA not only understands our business and audio visual requirements, but also believes in building lasting client relationships.

"The aim of the project is to improve student education through state-of-the-art multimedia PC-based presentation facilities, which includes data video projectors, document cameras, sound equipment, mixers, wireless microphones and overhead projectors," he added.

"The three lecture theatres feature remote touch-panel control systems that enable lecturers to easily control all audio visual equipment with the touch of a button, without having to leave the podium. All lecture rooms have been fitted with data ports to enable direct access to PCs, laptops, the Internet and e-mail. A fibre optic network infrastructure will also incorporate future technologies such as video conferencing for distance learning," Sunderland explained.

Monash supplements traditional teaching methods with a variety of modern teaching tools such as data/video projectors, document cameras and computer-based demonstrations. All students and staff at Monash have access to the Internet; including customised Web portals, e-mail, online library resources, class notes and streaming recorded lectures.

"ETA, in consultation with architects, consultants and Monash management, designed the lecture facilities to ensure ease of use for the lecturer and clear visibility of all projected data via an ASK C90 data video projector, for the students," said ETA Audiovisual project manager Piet Strydom.

The ASK C90, with new DVI (Digital Visual Interface) technology, offers brightness levels of up to 1100 ANSI lumens, among the brightest of the ultra-portable data video projectors. The C90 has native XGA resolution using the latest imaging technology and can project any resolution from SXGA to VGA and video, without information loss or distortion.
