eTelecare Global Solutions, a business process outsourcing (BPO) solutions provider, has purchased the Phone House Group to serve its European and North American clients.

Wynand Schutte, MD of eTelecare SA, says: “The company's expansion into Europe is expected to create 500 new local jobs during the next 12 months and underlines SA's position as a highly desirable call centre destination.

“The growth of the market has increased the number of different job roles, allowing for increased job progression. Despite the number of great opportunities in the industry, the basic requirement for entry is only a matric certificate, with full training provided for successful applicants.”

The company, headquartered in the Philippines, provides services from 15 delivery centres in the Philippines, US, Nicaragua and SA.

According to eTelecare, the Deloitte Key Indicator Report released in November 2008 states the number of people employed by the call centre industry in the Cape Town Metropolitan increased from 6 500 in 2003 to 27 819 in 2007/08. This accounted for 3.1% of the total number of people in formal employment in this area.
