To complement its existing range of thin client products, Ethniks Systems was recently appointed by X-Solutions as a reseller to Taking on Network Computing Devices (NCD). X-Solutions is the NCD distributors in Southern Africa.
According to Ehtniks Systems marketing director Kevin Greig, there is a great opportunity by partnering with NCD and X-Solutions in increasing the functionality of NT4 Terminal server and Windows 2000 that has Terminal Server included. "NCD offer a range of software products that enhance Terminal Server to be able to do local printing, local device support and load balancing amongst others."
"The NCD solution is also a lot cheaper than going for the total solution incorporating Citrix MetaFrame and we are therefore addressing a niche sector of the market for which the MetaFrame solution is just too costly," explains Greig.
X-Solutions managing director Richard Wohlrab says the thin client market is busy erupting and the technology is becoming more appealing for resellers to sell. "We are experiencing considerable growth and I sincerely believe the market is going to grow even faster in months to come. According to International Data Corporation, only 300 000 thin client devices were sold world-wide last year. But it is estimated that the world market for thin clients this year will be one million units, after which it will double every year until 2002, when it will reach between six and eight million units."
"NCD has an excellent range of thin client terminals to complement its software solution. Together with this, NCD has developed a network management product, ThinPATH, for managing thin-client devices. ThinPATH is unique in that it does not only run with NCD terminals but also on competitive products and even on older PC`s like 386/486 machines that have been made redundant. Utilising this solution therefore increases the life cycle of a PC saving corporations thousands of Rands in upgrade costs," concludes Greig.
