
Etisalat to roll out VOIP
UAE's telecom service providers Etisalat and Emirates Integrated Telecommunications will introduce voice-over-Internet protocol (VOIP) services by the end of 2010, reports Emirates 24/7.
Abdulla Hashim, Etisalat's senior vice-president of business solutions, says the service will be rolled out in the last quarter of this year.
Farid Faraidooni, CEO of commercial affairs at Emirates Integrated Telecommunications, confirms that it will be presenting its offers before the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority for approval before the services are released in the market.
US airline gets VOIP rights
Passengers on US airline JetBlue will soon be able to access in-flight VOIP solutions, states Telappliant.
Telecommunications company ViaSat has signed a deal with the airline to provide satellite broadband and TV services across its fleet of 160 planes by 2012.
The development will allow passengers to make VOIP calls via WiFi while in the air, as well as multimedia and entertainment services.
US Defense Department makes VOIP tests
Avaya's Government Solutions arm just completed its first end-to-end VOIP call over the US Department of Defense's (DOD) Global Information Grid, says Fierce VOIP.
The call was a field evaluation of the real-time services unified communication programme using technology meeting the service and security requirements needed by the DOD.
Avaya Government Solutions worked with Acme Packet on the test to provide the secure VOIP communications infrastructure and General Dynamics IT for the system integrator.
