Content security specialist and local representative of Aladdin Knowledge Systems (AKS), eSafe Technologies, has launched eToken R2, the second generation of a hardware device that allows for encryption of information, storage of user passwords, private keys and digital certificates for authentication solutions.
Brett Myroff, CEO of eSafe, says the new device is the first USB security token to feature 120-bit DESX symmetric encryption. "Use of the MD5 hashing algorithm no longer stands up to current security challenges so AKS has incorporated a 120-bit Data Encryption Standard (DES) key in its second generation eToken R2," he says, When deployed across local area networks (LANs) or virtual private networks (VPNs), or used in e-commerce or mobile computing applications, eToken secures a company`s digital assets by allowing only legitimate access to computers and network resources. Myroff says it serves as a secure "container" anywhere a password, cookie, digital certificate or token is used.
eToken R2 also incorporates an improved USB connector as well as strong two-factor authentication. "It enables organisations to eliminate costly implementation and installation issues normally associated with deployment of smart cards and biometric devices," adds Myroff.
This security token is an effective solution for e-commerce where merchants, banks and online traders want to manage and control customer access to revenue-generating Web sites. "Possession of an R2 (Release 2) eToken coupled with its user-defined password is more manageable and secure than previous methods," he says.
Because the eToken R2 contains no proprietary protocols and uses a published and tested encryption algorithm, it can be integrated into security solutions that currently support smart cards and other types of authentication devices. "This offers a low-cost, hardware-based, two-factor authentication tool for corporate settings," says Myroff.
The ability to securely store private keys and digital certificates on the token position it well for integration with existing Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) products from all major PKI vendors.
A Software Development Kit (SDK) to enable solution providers, systems integrators and application developers to integrate it into projects and products complements eToken. Volume shipments of the product are expected to begin next month.
