European businesses unprepared for tech disaster

[EMEBEDDED]Too many European businesses and organisations are failing to take effective business precautions, a new study has indicated, Ashdown Group reports.

Research conducted by EMC Corporation found that just 26% of firms are confident they can recover systems or in the event of a technology disaster.

And more than half of all organisations (54%) have lost or suffered system downtime in the last 12 months.

According to PC Pro, the European Disaster Recovery Survey 2011 report was based on 1 750 responses from private and public sector companies, and revealed that companies were not taking the threat of system failure seriously enough.

However, natural disaster and employee sabotage were not seen to be a big cause of any problems, although 43% said a lack of employee productivity had the “single biggest economical impact”, Tech Watch reveals.

Some 28% said they expected to lose revenue as a result of a disaster.

The survey also found that 40% of organisations still use tape for recovery and 80% want to change this to implement next-generation backup and recovery.
