The Government Technology World Africa conference will provide ICT vendors with the opportunity to meet, interact and do business with decision-makers from all tiers of government, say the organiser, Terrapinn.
The conference is scheduled to take place from 9 to 11 November at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.
According to Terrapinn, the conference will explore ICT strategies applicable to the African arena. The aim is to deliver first-hand knowledge on Africa`s planning and investment policies. The event will also provide insight on how African governments can maximise public service efficiency, infrastructure and development through ICT.
South Africa`s home affairs deputy minister Nosiviwe Mapisa Nqakula is scheduled to deliver an opening address on the use of technology in the South African government. This will be followed by Zambian home affairs minister Dr Kalombo Thomson Mwansa's keynote address on technology as a key to Africa`s revival.
Senior e-government advisor of the UK's deputy prime minister Chris Haynes and United National Capital Fund ICT advisor Mona Afifi are some of the high-level speakers who will provide international case study experiences.
E-government challenges that will be addressed include integrating new technologies into legacy systems, the dangers of ad hoc implementation of ICT, establishing true interoperability and the challenges of implementing affordable government systems. Successful projects from various countries including Ghana, Sierra Leone and Gambia will be explored.
Representatives from Malawi, Mauritius, Uganda, Nigeria and Kenya will also share their governments` experiences.
