Technology Concepts, the specialist Internet solutions company, has launched a competition in which there can be no losers.
Companies which want to optimise their Internet access bandwidth should simply go to www.techconcepts.co.za, or click on the Technology Concepts banner on IT Web, and sign up for a free two-week evaluation of TC Bandwidth Manager, a cost-effective solution to bandwidth woes.
This will automatically put them in line to win an all expenses paid exclusive two-night safari for two at the Inyati Private Game Reserve.
The only restriction on entry in that companies must have an active diginet leased line and the evaluation unit must be installed before 31 July 2003. The draw for the winner of the safari holiday will take place on 1 August 2003.
According to Wayne de Nobrega, managing director of Technology Concepts, optimising existing bandwidth is a far more cost-effective solution for companies struggling to satisfy their burgeoning Internet connectivity requirements than investing in more bandwidth.
De Nobrega explains that TC Bandwidth Manager is a platform for Internet services delivery that prioritises network traffic to ensure optimal response times for applications. It classifies Internet traffic into customer-defined categories thereby providing better service for selected network traffic. Bandwidth is increased for critical traffic, and reduced for non-critical traffic.
"Going online can be an expensive operation for South African businesses - the Telkom rental for a local 64K diginet leased line is about R1 800 per month while ISP charges start at around R2 500 per month. So the actual cost of your Internet line is probably over R4 300 per month. As Web Services and other rich-media applications increasingly gain hold in corporate technology infrastructure, companies are compelled to either increase their bandwidth, or optimise that which they already have," he says.
Companies typically find once Internet enablement has been accepted, bandwidth requirements quickly outstrip supply.
When traffic exceeds available bandwidth, just one greedy application can saturate the Internet link, while high volume traffic can easily starve other applications or services, preventing important tasks from being completed.
"The solution most often implemented is an upgrade of the connection at a substantial ongoing cost to the organisation. However, most networks don`t actually need additional bandwidth, but rather a means to manage their existing bandwidth efficiently," he explains.
Because infrastructure and Internet bandwidth are relatively scarce resources and therefore carry a hefty cost, optimisation is clearly a more cost-effective option to addressing bandwidth blues.
"In addition, without a bandwidth manager your data is random: first come, first served. TC Bandwidth Manager allows companies to protect and manage data link traffic and achieve optimum Internet performance for important applications," he says.
TC Bandwidth Manager classifies traffic according to application/service, or a combination of application/service and user. It prioritises the traffic, giving mission-critical applications immediate access to the network, while non-productive traffic is assigned a lower priority. This ensures a smooth and consistent flow across the network even in the most congested times.
The product provides full real-time reporting capabilities, enabling network administrators to reserve bandwidth for high-priority individuals, services or specific applications, says de Nobrega. "For example, bandwidth resources can be allocated to ensure that online payment services are always available to the organisation`s financial staff," he explains.
"The concept of bandwidth management is of importance to both large and small Internet users. Unless you have much more bandwidth than you need all of the time, TC Bandwidth Manager can provide a significant improvement in bandwidth utilisation, and in effect, yields increased productivity with less bandwidth.
"However, we don`t expect companies to simply take our word for it. That`s why we`re offering a two-week free trial of the product," de Nobrega concludes.
For more than four years, Technology Concepts has been providing a variety of Internet driven solutions and technology innovations to meet the ever-increasing demands of businesses.
