Execs not disaster ready

IT execs are insecure about their plans, reports News.

That`s according to a new survey by Harris Interactive that reported 39% of executives polled gave their plans a letter grade of C or worse, revealing a troubling lack of confidence in disaster readiness.

The survey results also indicated this lack of confidence in disaster recovery planning is growing. A similar survey conducted in 2004 found 24% of executives gave their plans poor grades.

IBM unveils virtual storage solution

IBM developed a mainframe virtual-tape product designed to improve processing and support business continuity, ComputerWeekly.com reports.

The System Storage TS7700 Virtualisation Engine is built on hardware and software architecture that creates a virtual tape grid computing environment through a global awareness function.

Challenges increase for data protection

Continuity Central reports that IT managers face increasing challenges in the struggle to ensure data protection, reduce backup windows, and manage both capital and operational costs.

Continual data growth, spurred by an increase in business data from databases, e-mail systems, file shares and other sources, is only one aspect of the problem.

Adding to the burden on IT management is the need to retain data of all sorts for longer periods due to changes in how businesses operate, and evolving regulatory demands.
