Today, The Fulcrum Group of companies announced the conclusion of an empowerment transaction with Primary Capital, which promises to significantly expand the delivery capacity and market reach of the group, thereby ensuring delivery of ever-greater benefits to an existing and new customer base.
Primary Capital, a black-owned company headed by Lawrence Magobotla, has acquired 40% of Fulcrum for an undisclosed amount. The capital raised by the transaction will be used to expand the current capacity of Fulcrum Solutions, the division of the group focused on the delivery of highly technical and often top secret solutions in the military space.
In addition, it will gear Fulcrum Business Solutions to deliver more customer-oriented solutions in the niche Microsoft Enterprise Project Management solution space, which Fulcrum already dominates in southern Africa.
Primary Capital is a black-owned investment company with focus primarily in niche technology markets, resources and financial services. This transaction will give Fulcrum access to the experience of black executives like Magobotla, previous managing director of THUSO Information Technologies and the founder of several BEE initiatives.
"The reasons for investing in the Fulcrum Group are obvious if you look at the dominance that Fulcrum enjoys in the Microsoft Enterprise Project Management space and the unique opportunities that face our country in the defence markets. The skills that Fulcrum can offer these markets are of international quality and their exposure to these niche markets will be an asset to our local industry," said Magobotla.
Fulcrum is undoubtedly the leading enterprise project management partner in southern Africa, based on number of full installations, size of largest implementation, completeness of offering and number of consultants training on project management. However, Andre Wolmarans, managing director of the Fulcrum Group, believes this engagement will allow Fulcrum to do business in sectors previously not accessible to Fulcrum. Through the newly empowered organisation, business in government delivery nodes, which has 60% of the potential enterprise project management business in SA, will become a primary focus area for Fulcrum. "Our military business, which has so far focused primarily on international markets, will now also turn its focus to the South African market. This transaction makes Fulcrum Solutions one of a few black empowered companies that will ensure the involvement of previously disadvantaged individuals in the mainstream of the defence market," adds Wolmarans.
