Building on the success of previous M-Net reality show websites, such as Big Brother and Idols, MWEB Business has once again produced and hosted Web sites for two of M-Net`s recent popular reality shows, The Block and Project Fame.
"We have been developing Web sites for M-Net since the reality television craze first gripped SA a few years ago. The Project Fame and The Block sites allowed us to utilise the latest Web site technologies and applications to allow for a rich, engaging and interactive visitor experience," says Alisdair Murray-Smith, general manager: business solution development, MWEB Business.
"Viewers can visit The Block`s Web site before Sunday`s special finale show and have a final look at the couples` flats, interact with other viewers via the online forum and chat room as well as register for the upcoming auction," adds Murray-Smith.
The Block Web site features include an interactive guide with a flash application, which allows visitors to view floor plans of the couples` flats.
"We designed the site to engage users to explore it and view images and clips in a different way. By clicking on a particular room, visitors can, for example, view `before` and `after` images of the various rooms," adds Murray-Smith. Visitors to the site are able to view the couples` diaries, profiles, photographs, budgets and are also able to download exclusive video clips.
In addition to developing and hosting the sites, MWEB Business has also facilitated the audience voting for both programmes in SA and the rest of Africa, via Web, SMS and telephone. The Block Web site has attracted just over 650 000 page views to date, with the final week still to come. A total of 45 000 newsletters have been sent, and nearly 85 000 votes cast in the sites` contestant popularity poll. To experience The Block online, visit http://www.theblock.co.za.
