Experts call for further IT training

Further IT training for staff is essential if businesses want to ensure their online security, according to a leading expert, reports Computeach.

IT provider Sophos has commented on the significance of companies training their staff in secure computer use in order to tackle malware deployed by cyber criminals.

Research released by Panda Security last week showed that one-third of all the computer viruses currently in existence were created in the first 10 months of 2010.

Tech firms push for child safety

The technology industry is making an intensified national push to try to keep children safer online, reveals USA Today.

Microsoft is sponsoring a national programme called Generation Safe to provide training for teachers and school officials to build community networks for protecting children online.

The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium is dispatching volunteers into classrooms to discuss cyber security. Non-profit groups StaySafeOnline.org and iKeepSafe.org, which are sponsored by large corporations, are providing online safety tips and teaching curricula to parents and teachers.

L'Oreal in cycle

With thousands of beauty products across its brands, L'Oreal Australia found training retail partners' staff in its consumer range was costly and time-consuming, notes Australian IT.

Faced with more diverse accounts in regional areas, L'Oreal's consumer products division sought a more flexible solution to allow the employees of hundreds of different pharmacies, department stores and grocery outlets to keep up-to-date with their latest products.

The company was locked into a cycle of retail education, with a team of trainers continually travelling the country, booking hotels and conference venues to deliver product updates and sales tips to retail staff in metropolitan and rural locations.
