One lucky attendee of the DigitalLife Expo, held at the Sandton Convention Centre from 27 to 29 March, walked away with a R250 000 prize, sponsored by `do , powered by Telkom`.

The winner, Pierre Francis, won the contents of a home, built especially for the expo, to highlight the latest integrated technologies that facilitate running a successful smart home.

The competition was open exclusively to DigitalLife Expo registered visitors, and only original entry forms, found inside the Saturday Star, as well as Pretoria News and the Sunday Independent newspapers, were accepted.

Ten finalists were drawn on each day of the expo, under the supervision of the expo`s auditors, Fordham & Oshry.

"All finalists were notified and invited to the draw, and finalists needed to be present at the expo on the 29th to qualify," explains Angela Wressell, events director at ITWeb.

She says each finalist received an envelope, but only 10 of the envelopes contained a secret access code. "The person with the code that matched the combination to the house`s state-of-the-art digital access control system walked away with the big prize. The ninth code, belonging to Francis, was the winning one."

"I cannot feel my legs at the moment," exclaimed Francis. "As I came here on Friday I did not expect to win this prize. It seems as though this is my year, as I won another prize a few months ago. This is the cherry on top."

Francis, who is a buyer for company ADT, says he has a keen interest in digital technology and is a qualified IT technician - a skill that will come in handy when integrating the products he has won into his home.

The R250 000`s worth of prize technology included an HD Microsoft Media Centre; a DSTV HD PVR, Onkyo A/V receiver and Blu-ray player; PolkaAudio sound system; a home automation system; an LG Scarlet 47-inch LCD screen; a Sonos music control system; Asus EEE PC notebook; a gaming PC with Logitech accessories; HTC Windows Mobile phone; an Xbox 360 gaming console; a CellSecure smart home management system; an HTC docking station; a Nikon camera; and more.
