Knowledge management solutions and applications specialist Exsol has acquired the exclusive South African distribution rights for Tower Software`s Trim electronic record keeping system. Exsol is a division of JSE listed EC-Hold and Tower Software is an Australian research and development company.
Trim`s uniqueness lies in its ability to handle a combination of paper and electronic records in a single view, providing one global view of any organisation`s entire physical records and electronic documentation.
"Trim is a records management product that has grown to become and electronic document management system which applies electronic record keeping rules to data," says Allan Stewart, sales director at Exsol. "Trim`s strength is that it keeps rich metadata which allows for superior searching ability. This `information on information` gives the viewer a single view access into all records, no matter what their format."
"It is an advanced knowledge management tool which solves all of the problems faced by an organisation which struggles to compile data from different formats. Trim allows one to track where any document is stored and has no preference on what format that data is, be it tiff files, movies, word documents or newspaper clippings," says Stewart.
"A Gartner Group study showed that professionals spend as much as half their time searching for documents, but only 15 percent of their time reading them" he says. "The metadata searching system means that Trim can cut the search time by 70%."
Trim applies business rules to the method of how data is filed and located, and can be made industry specific and able to recognise dedicated acronyms to facilitate data input or retrieval speed. Trim also has a workflow routing capability, will interface with all desktops, and is scalable across all operating and database environments.
Another of Trim`s unique features is that it applies disposition and archiving rules to the electronic documents, moving or storing them elsewhere as defined by the user`s demands.
The past two months have seen Exsol complete all product support and sales training, and sign up a reseller.
