Extend Internet access to any electrical outlet

A new adapter kit designed to extend Internet access to any electrical outlet linking to desktop PCs, gaming consoles and set-top boxes, has been released by Duxbury Networking.

The Netgear Powerline AV+ 200 offers plug-and-play set-up and provides faster speeds for applications such as multiplayer online gaming.

“Extra outlets ensure users have room to plug in a power strip for a variety of small office, home office or home theatre devices,” says Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking.

“The set-up is easy and can be completed in minutes,” he adds. “There is no need to configure or install software. Speeds up to 200Mbps enable a wide range of Internet applications and are ideal for multiplayer gaming.”

Robb says Powerline technology allows any ordinary 220 volt electrical outlet to be used to create a 10/100 Ethernet connection - obviating the need to run additional network cables, thus lowering the overall cost to deploy a high-speed network in the home or office.

“The technology is increasingly popular for always-on infrastructures because of the rapid growth in connected AV devices - and the high speeds and reliability required to support these applications,” he notes.

Key features of the Netgear Powerline AV+ 200 include 'push-and-secure' functionality, which secures the network connection at the touch of a button.

“This enables non-skilled users to easily install and secure the devices without any knowledge of networking. As a bonus, there are no passwords to remember,” explains Robb.

A function that automatically tests the connection at any electrical outlet ensures the highest possible performance, while a noise-filtering socket for use with additional devices is provided with the kit.
