Fake call centre operators held

They have so far duped more than 500 people of Rs 50 lakh on the pretext of promising them high returns simply by joining a bulk text messaging scheme in south Delhi.

Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south), said Rashid Ahmed, 30, Balwant, 21, and Rakhi, 21, were apprehended following investigations into a complaint.

The Fatehpur Beri cops said they had received 52 complaints against this call centre gang from five states in North India, The Times of India writes.

“We have busted an interstate racket of cheats, who duped more than 500 innocent persons from various parts of India to the tune of more than Rs 50 lakh,” said Sharma.

“The gang operates using a unique modus operandi whereby they publish advertisements in leading vernacular newspapers in various parts of the country to lure the people with attractive schemes.”

A car, 33 mobile phones, 29 SIM cards, details of 64 bank accounts, 27 passbooks and 64 ATM cards were recovered, NDTV says.
