Faritec helps KZN school become top IT resource centre

Johannesburg, 26 Oct 2006

In a deal that that will see St Henry`s Marist Brothers College in Durban become one of the most innovative IT resource centres in the country, leading JSE-listed BEE empowered IT services and solutions company Faritec has signed a new rental agreement with the school that also allows for a generous donation of computers.

Together with St Henry`s College, Faritec has helped to ensure a healthy future for IT education at the school as the rental contract allows for the doubling of computer hardware over a period of time, an agreement that will give learners significant advantages while keeping the school constantly up-to-date with the latest technology.

Dr Tony Akal, headmaster at St Henry`s, says that for many years, the teaching faculty has pursued a vision of fostering an approach of independent self-study and research on the part of the students.

"Integral to this approach is the provision of the outstanding new research facility," says Dr Akal. "The completion of the new learning resource centre, coupled with the donation of the latest computers from Faritec for the purposes of Internet and intranet research, has realised this vision of vastly enhanced research capabilities for students and teachers at the college."

Bryden Culbert, Faritec`s rental account manager, says that apart from the donation of computers to the school, the company managed to give St Henry`s a complete solution that allows them to save money on a monthly basis.

"The contract also allows for the complete elimination of old machines, thus keeping the resource centre up-to-date with new technology on an on going basis," says Culbert.

An additional benefit to the school lies in the financial structure of the transaction. As an off-balance sheet operating expense, the rental for the equipment can be deducted from the operating income, allowing the school to inject the capital back into the school`s facilities.

"For St Henry`s College, this means a strong, innovative, fast, new IT centre which will always be up to date with the latest technology," concludes Culbert.
