Freecom has launched a new external DVD+RW/+R-drive, known as the FX-10.
Available in SA Africa through sole distributor Square One Solutions Group Limited, the FX-10 is a fast, all-in-one device that allows users to burn rewriteable DVD+RWs, recordable DVD+Rs and CDs, read DVD-ROMs and CD-ROMs and play DVD videos.
The 2.4X DVD Writer writes and rewrites a standard 4.7GB DVD in about 25 minutes. CDs are written at 12X speed and rewritten at 10X speed. The drive also has 8X DVD reading speed and a 32X speed for reading CDs.
The external DVD+RW/+R drive is connected with the simple plug-and-play connector to the USB 2.0 port for maximum performance. With the integrated Power-ON/OFF function, the drive automatically switches off and thus does not draw any standby power.
Says Lisa Jackson, divisional manager responsible for Freecom products at Square One: "The Freecom FX-10 is the ideal combination of leading-edge technology and cool design that falls outside of the conventional framework, being uniquely sloped with a closed front panel. The drawer of the drive is fully integrated - a little pressure with the finger opens the flap and the drawer rolls out."
The Freecom FX-10 offers a cost-effective external DVD+RW/+R-drive with USB 2.0 port. Easy installation and operation make it simple to switch between different workplaces. Users can copy DVDs and CDs or make backups on DVD+RW (4.7 GB, corresponding to about seven CDs).
"Users can also play videos or compile music and photo CDs. With the accompanying full version of Ulead Video Studio 5 software, videos can be edited digitally on the computer and then burnt to DVD or CD," adds Jackson.
The FX-10 DVD+RW/+R makes it possible to store up to 130 minutes of high quality video recordings or up to three hours of video recordings in VHS quality on one DVD. When writing and rewriting to DVDs as well as CDs, the in-built Buffer Under-run Prevention Technology ensures reliable recording at all times.
The drive is sold with the USB 2.0 connecting cable and carries a two-year manufacturer's warranty. The kit also has a comprehensive software package including the latest burning software, Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.3 for DVD and CD as well as Toast burning software for Mac Version 5.1, PowerDVD from Cyberlink and Ulead Video Studio 5.
Also in the kit are a DVD+RW (4.7 GB) and CD-R (700 MB), a CD-Marker pen and a multilingual manual.
"Older computers that do not have a USB 2.0 port can be affordably upgraded with Freecom's FA-1 USB-2 PCI card," adds Jackson.
