An extremely fast CD-RW recorder designed for simple and easy computing yet with extensive multimedia power, has been introduced to the South African market by the JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group, sole distributor of Freecom products in southern Africa.
The FX-1 CD-RW from Freecom Technologies allows users to create, save and share music, video, data and photographs on compact discs. The recorder can be installed literally in seconds as there is no need to open the host computer. It also connects and disconnects without having to restart the computer.
"Speed is impressive, with the FX-1 capable of fully recording a CD in less than four minutes," says Gail Golden, manager of Freecom products at Square One. "It is also hot swappable, compatible with Windows 98/2000/ME/XP and comes with free helpdesk support and a two-year warranty."
Connection of the high-speed external USB-2 drive to a computer is achieved via a USB port. With USB-2 interface a speed of 480Mbps is achieved. The FX-1 package includes USB cabling, installation software, CD recording software, AC adaptor and a quick installation guide. Buffer under-run prevention is included, allowing users to multi-task and create corruption-free CDs.
"Freecom's AWT (active write control) feature is also included to ensure that the drive automatically writes error-free CDs at the highest possible speeds. The minimum system requirement is a Pentium 166MHz with 32MB of RAM, 100MB of free hard disk space and, for maximum performance, the computer and software should support high-speed USB-2."
