SMS Cellular Services (Pty) Ltd announces an affordable enterprise class, light SMS desktop application that makes the true SMS enablement of every user and all systems across an enterprise an achievable reality.
"Our new CellSys Enterprise Application Server - an application development platform for client/server software systems - allows for users across a large organisation to send SMS messages directly from their workstation with little cost for deployment," says Barry Prinsloo, Sales Director of SMS Cellular Services.
The development platform offers an alternative to traditional Web, Microsoft .Net, IBM Websphere and existing thin client technologies and with a client side footprint of around 60kb, is vastly smaller than any equivalent worldwide.
In essence, the platform comprises a server application, running under a current Microsoft Windows Server operating system such as Windows 2000 Server, and ultra lite client components running on desktop workstations. The Ultra Lite Client runs in the presentation space of the desktop under any Microsoft Operating System from Windows 95 upwards.
The new SMS client application provides for a traditional "thick client" interface with a Microsoft look and feel user experience including full functionality of a local application, with buttons, tabs, multiple screens or forms and the like. Much of this functionality is generally lost using standard Web-based or portal type applications.
"Communications between the Ultra Lite Client and the CellSys Enterprise Application Server is pure IP-based traffic, which means it is extremely light on network bandwidth. The system is non-connectioned, in that communications between the Ultra Lite Client and the CellSys Enterprise Application Server only occur once a user commits a transaction by hitting 'enter' on the keyboard.
"Moving these packets around a WAN or LAN is insignificant relative to an SMTP type e-mail or HTML Web page download," says Prinsloo.
The platform provides for a single point of development, management, deployment and a single database. It supports all industry standard databases on the server and allows for applications to be developed using common programming languages such as C++, Visual Basic (VB), Delphi and the like.
The development of API and object level interfaces that can be "wrapped" onto the server provide an unparalleled level of integratability into other back-end systems. It is a thread-based technology enabling true multi-processor support on the server.
Ultimately the CellSys Application Development Server provides a platform for the development and deployment of applications at a lower cost in terms of system resources and human resources and can enable organisations to reduce the number of costly licences necessary for users to access back-end systems.
The complete suite of CellSys SMS Server and client applications and its associated software has been designed specifically for the high reliability and high throughput demanded by any large company. The products are developed in SA and thus full technical support, including access to the original developers, as well as all local staff training is available any where within boundaries of SA.
SMS and mobile technology leader CellSys provides enterprise-enabling SMS systems on a wide range of applications and platforms. The CellSys service includes a fully redundant network infrastructure for connection to GSM operators worldwide (including SA's Vodacom and MTN).
This ensures an unparalleled level of availability allowing organisations to implement SMS-enabled business-critical applications. The simplicity of the interfaces and the ease of integration with the CellSys system means that SMS-enabled applications can be deployed quickly and easily, with minimal cost.
Offerings such as service level agreements, access to a 24-hour help desk, network monitoring, engineering support and integration services, and consulting has enabled CellSys to develop an impressive list of blue chip clients in the banking, financial services, manufacturing and mining industries.
Developed in the late 1990s, the CellSys SMS gateway supports the full range of GSM SMS functionality including ESMS (Enhanced Short Message Service), smart messages, e-mail to SMS, SMS to e-mail and mobile origination.
