FaxMail signals end of the fax machine

Johannesburg, 05 Dec 2007

The fax machine, once a staple business tool, is becoming obsolete, as technology that turns faxes into e-mails replaces it. That`s according to Ingrid Green, marketing manager of Itec.

"FaxMail gives people access to their own personal fax number, and allows them to receive faxes directly to their e-mail inbox," says Green.

"It`s free of charge, there is no limit to the number of faxes received, and there is no need for a separate Telkom fax line. The fax is sent to their inbox as a TIF or PDF attachment and they can receive it anywhere, which makes it ideal for business travellers."

Green says cost-savings and confidentiality are two key benefits of FaxMail. "It does away with the need for expensive fax machines, paper and toner, which translates into major reductions in expenditure, particularly when you think of the dozens of fax machines used by corporates to send and receive hundreds of multi-page paper faxes. But the savings factor is equally important for the small-to-medium business, where margins may be narrower and budgets much tighter."

She adds that privacy is another major plus when it comes to FaxMail. After all, contracts and agreements are not the kind of documents you want to see lying around.

"The common office fax machine does not allow for confidentiality," says Green. "Faxes are left at the machine or collected by employees who have the responsibility of sorting through them and delivering them to the recipients - often having to scrutinise the content before they can do so. Because services like Itec`s FaxMail give each subscriber a personal fax number, the fax is delivered directly to their inbox without any interception.

"As business becomes more and more global and workforces become more mobile, the days of wasting time standing in front of the fax machine are over," says Green.

"With FaxMail, you can simply e-mail your faxes from anywhere and receive them wherever you are, whether you are working at your desk or overseas on business."
