Fibernet deploys Huawei`s fifth generation router solution throughout the UK

Network Processor technology to increase performance and flexibility
Johannesburg, 06 Nov 2003

Huawei Technologies, a global provider of telecoms infrastructure, today announced that network service provider Fibernet has deployed its transparent LAN service throughout the UK.

Huawei`s fifth generation router, the Quidway NE40, will power Fibernet`s national Ethernet/MPLS backbone and provide a high performance converged services platform for key business customers.

The new service will provide Fibernet`s customers with great cost savings when compared to more traditional legacy services like ATM and Frame Relay - up to 80% according to industry analyst OVUM*. In addition, Fibernet will benefit from Huawei`s advanced R&D and service capabilities, which include 24x7, four-hour response time on maintenance flags.

* Transparent LAN Service throughout the whole of the UK, available from more than 50 of Fibernet`s 100+ national POPs.

* From 1M-1G per customer connection, with lower total solution costs.

* VPN Manager provides easy end-to-end management solution.

* 24x7, four-hour response service capability.

James Yang, Data Product Director of Huawei Technologies (UK), said: "Many telecoms companies have encountered problems with ASIC-based routers in the IP core layer because of their inability to provide advanced services in an effective, timely and convenient manner. Huawei`s fifth generation router, based on Network Processor (NP) technology, changes that, providing customers with a core router that combines guaranteed high performance and flexible service capability.

"We are delighted that Fibernet has chosen to deploy our solutions and look forward to working closely with them in providing the best possible service to their customers."

Martin Goult, Chief Network Architect at Fibernet, added: "Huawei`s NE40 network platform technology is leading-edge. The combination of Resilient Packet Ring network technology, wire speed performance, redundant power, processor and network routes have enabled us to deliver true carrier class services. Ease of provisioning, management and reporting coupled with sub 50 millisecond recovery times ensure that our customers can entrust their business-critical services to this most robust of service platforms."
