A new supplier of structured cabling and allied components for the networking, telecommunications and electrical industries will be launched at the forthcoming Cabling World Africa 2000 exhibition at Gallagher Estate (5-7 June).
FibrePlus, who recently acquired the business assets of Allemann Cables, has plans to establish itself as a leading distributor of fibre optics as well as copper cabling and networking accessories for a wide range of applications.
At the exhibition it will showcase new product offerings from its principal suppliers, Reichle & De-Massari (R&M Freenet), Taihan, Attac and Digital Data Communications (LevelOne), and trunking manufacturer PVC Group (MK brand).
Its display will feature all kinds of fibre and copper cables, high voltage electrical cabling options as well as jumper wire, fire alarm cable, ribbon cable, patchcords, coloured boots, boxes, connectors racks, network hubs, patch panels and cabinets.
According to Dave Fawcett, director of FibrePlus, the acquisition and merger of the Allermann operations was a logical step: "Allemann dealt mainly in copper based solutions. Now we have a strategy in place to become a `one-stop` supplier of both fibre and copper-based solutions to installers and resellers. One of the main principle suppliers which was acquired by FibrePlus through the Allemann merger is the Swiss company Reichle & De-Massari (R&M), producers of connecting hardware and accessories.
"R&M`s Freenet product range has proved to be a great success in South Africa with more than 12 000 voice and data lines having been installed in the Gauteng region alone," says Fawcett.
"The advantage Freenet has is that it conforms to all existing and pending standards, and it is one of the very few solutions that allows for the integration of fibre and copper on the same rack."
In terms of its optical fibre products, FibrePlus represents Taihan, a Korean company that is one of the largest manufacturers of single- and multi-mode optical fibres in the world. Its offerings are targeted at a wide range of applications.
Taihan also manufacture accessories, including patch cords, adapters, terminating boxes and distribution panels.
Fawcett says the quality of the Taihan products is proven: "Every length of Taihan fibre that leaves our premises is complete with a test certificate. We also offer customers the facility to have special cabling designed and manufactured to their specific requirements," he says.
FibrePlus has also added the German company Digital Data Communications to its portfolio, and will be focusing on the sale of this company`s LevelOne range of local area network (LAN) products which include hubs, switches, transceivers, cards and adapters for both fibre and copper based systems.
A major goal of FibrePlus is to see the introduction of cost-effective fibre to the desktop. "We see the use of optical fibre as central to the effective use of the Internet, which in future will carry many more audio, video and voice applications," says Fawcett.
FibrePlus is rapidly expanding its operations throughout SA and Namibia. Through a network of subsidiaries and agents FibrePlus already has a strong presence in Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, and Bloemfontein.
