Grintek Telecom has secured distribution rights, as the South African channel partner, for Purple Voice's VOIP (voice over IP) Community solution. Headquartered in Hayes, Middlesex, Purple Voice Ltd is pioneering the way in providing next-generation communication solutions for the financial trading community, utilising existing corporate LAN/WAN infrastructure.
"Purple Voice is an Internet Protocol (IP)-based communication solution, specifically designed for mission-critical, closed user group communication tasks, such as linking financial trading floors to back office functions globally," says Roger Blain, general manager of Grintek Telecom's corporate division.
"Purple Voice combines voice and text, to provide a global real-time communication software solution designed for the cut and thrust of the financial trading institution environment, where timely communications can often mean the difference in millions being made or lost - depending on whether or not it is immediately effective," he says.
According to Blain, the Purple Voice Community Global Audio and Financial Messenger solutions are easy to deploy, and make full use of the existing corporate network. This apparently reduces internal call charges, often coming in around 50% less than conventional communications used in this environment. "These solutions feature intelligent global connectivity, increasing the quality of information flow, by connecting anyone from any location, and relaying information in real-time," he points out.
"And, with Global Audio and Financial Messenger's presence management feature, one can see if the message recipient is online before communicating."
Furthermore, Blain says, both aspects of Community feature secure management and effective centralised management control, with a full audit trail capability. "In the past it was always problematic to interface the trading floor to the back office, as this involved setting up complex PBX network links, systems which lacked the necessary features for a complex trading communication system," he comments.
"For communications between closed user group of traders, fixed private wires were used, which is an old analogue form of communication similar to a rural exchange party line. Now with Purple Voice large-scale global rollouts can be achieved swiftly, efficiently, and even remotely."
The Purple Voice Global Audio aspect of the Community solution delivers audio broadcasts, point-to-point intercom calls, group calls, or hoots to PCs over the corporate data network in real-time.
"Global Audio is an intelligent solution and an alternative to the internal intercom systems or squawk boxes usually used in the financial trading situation, providing a unified software solution that uses minimal desk space and is simple and intuitive to use," adds Blain.
"Typically morning calls, broadcasts, hoots and intercom calls are relayed to interested parties on and off the trading floor, using proprietary hardware systems. This requires a unit on the desktop, switching hardware in the backroom, separate cabling, and a limited ability to link offices using expensive private wires. Global Audio requires no new networks, provides global connectivity, and empowers users to communicate quickly and intuitively."
The Purple Voice Financial Messenger aspect of the Community solution delivers instant text messaging, again, according to Blain, requiring no new networks or infrastructure to accommodate it, and providing split-second global connectivity and communications abilities to traders and their clients.
"Financial Messenger gives users the ability to communicate quickly and intuitively in text format, saving time and money that would be spent trying to contact colleagues and making expensive company phone calls," he states.
He adds that Financial Messenger also provides a full audit trail of historic and pending messages and integrates fully with Purple Voice's established Global Audio solution, giving end-users the option of whether to communicate via speech or text. Financial Messenger operates on standard multimedia PCs, over existing corporate data networks.
