The Shop is a product of Digital Pictures, and claims to have committed itself to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date list of South African e-commerce Web sites.
With 25 categories and 171 listed e-commerce Web sites, The Shop seems to have upheld this commitment, and looks capable of satisfying any roving online shopper.
Appearance
The Web site is very colourful and appealing to the eye. The layout is clean and content very easily digested.
Functionality
This site contains more links to useful and relevant content sites than I have seen in a while. You can make a donation to a number of charitable organisations, find out more about education and self help, browse through nationally available classifieds, find out more on business related sites, shop for apparel and accessories - in short, this site appears to have links to Web sites that will sell you almost anything.
The search engine seems completely functional, and on the whole, you`re not likely to find any broken links or other such roadblocks at this site.
An interesting feature is that The Shop indicates in the brief description of each Web site if a shop is SET-enabled, and in addition, cross-references the sites with any available coupons.
Navigation
The site is fast, and pages generally load quickly. Thanks to a firmly anchored navigation bar, the site is easily navigated from any point, both forward and backward.
Anything extra?
The site offers frequent visitors a mailing list that provides notification of any new e-commerce-enabled Web sites as and when they are launched.
There is also a regularly updated e-commerce related news story on the front page, and articles detailing e-commerce security and information on enabling existing businesses for e-commerce.
