First fallout from MS code leak
Eweek (www.eweek.com) reports that SecurityGlobal.net has warned its clients of a new vulnerability to Internet Explorer 5, attributed to the leak of Microsoft Windows source code.
The vulnerability reported in Explorer 5 lets a remote user execute arbitrary code on a system, says SecurityGlobal.net.
The author of the warning said that this flaw was uncovered by reviewing the recently leaked Windows source code. Several analysts had predicted no immediate threat from the source code leak, since the amount of code presented on the Internet was limited.
Phone on chip this year?
Texas Instruments, the world`s biggest maker of cell phone chips, says it will unveil digital radio technology that will allow it to combine multiple cellular phone functions into a single digital chip by the end of this year.
The company says using a single chip will allow for a 50 percent reduction in power and board space inside the phone, leaving more room for functions like WiFi high-speed wireless networking and satellite location tracking.
HP to archive Time magazine
Hewlett Packard is to create a digital archive of every issue of Time magazine ever published, reports Reuters. Time will make the archives freely available to subscribers on its Web site.
The digital archive will contain over 4 000 issues dating back from 1923 to the present.
The archive will use HP`s Proliant servers, HP StorageWorks data storage gear, its OpenView management software, special software developed by HP labs and professional services.
