First live certified WiMax network in Africa

Johannesburg, 08 May 2006

RapidCloud Technology, access solutions provider and sub-Saharan distributor for Redline Communications, has announced that Teledata in Mozambique has deployed the first WiMax certified network in Africa.

While hype around WiMax has many carriers and ISPs debating technology benefits, Teledata Mozambique`s move to roll-out WiMax for the Maputo metropolitan area is based on the recent WiMax Forum`s certification of Redline`s RedMAX products as well as the desire to gain the first to market benefits.

CEO for RapidCloud Technology, Arnoud De Nooy, says that when Teledata Mozambique decided to move to WiMax in September 2005, it hedged its bets on Redline being one of the first, if not the first company, to fully comply with the WiMax standard, because of its commitment to the technology and standards development.

For Teledata Mozambique, WiMax is all about delivering quality broadband to the Mozambique market and represents an affordable alternative to digital subscriber lines (DSL) and cable broadband access.

"The Internet market in Mozambique is growing and there is still a shortage of credible broadband solutions in the market," says De Nooy. "To satisfy their customers` needs, but also look to exceed their expectations, Teledata Mozambique analysed the different technological options to provide broadband Internet services. They felt that certified WiMax was the right technology to implement."

The installation costs for a wireless infrastructure based on 802.16 (2004/ D) are considered far less than today`s wired solutions, and also offers unique flexibility and scalability for a dramatically expanding market.

De Nooy says the Redline RedMAX products have been chosen by several major international carriers and are fast becoming regarded as the leading solution for WiMax certified broadband wireless equipment.

"We are seeing companies who are considering the technology make the move to real-time deployment in just a few months. This since the WiMax Forum only certified Redlines` RedMax base station and CPE products in January," adds De Nooy.

"WiMax will give Maputo residents a very high quality service that up till now the current wireless technologies installed could not provide," says De Nooy.

"WiMax will help Teledata Mozambique introduce new services, improve the quality of services and in so doing enhance the customer satisfaction and improve customer loyalty. We believe this will help Teledata accomplish its leadership in Mozambique Internet business."

"Redline`s current RedMAX products can enable operators to connect premium service to customers now. The advantage of being first to market means establishing a strong business model and robust WiMax network and reaping the benefits from WiMax technology today," says Mike Ansley, VP of Worldwide Sales and Support for Redline Communications.
