First National Bank (FNB), SA`s oldest bank, has chosen PROGNOSIS BASE24-pos Log Manager from Integrated Research (IR) to manage its BASE24 Point-of-sale (POS) transaction environment.
FNB`s Merchant Acquiring IT head Annelie Pretorius says FNB needed an efficient way of tracking its own transactions, and those of other institutions in real-time, and to understand when and why transactions were failing.
"Until now we`ve only been able to consolidate transactions at month`s end, which is not ideal in a real-time transaction environment," says Pretorius. "The issue is not so much tracking `denials` but rather `approvals` because monies are levied on each approved transaction. It`s a case of reducing our liability when other institutions aren`t available to approve a transaction and we have to underwrite it until they`re back online."
FNB has been using PROGNOSIS to manage its HP NonStop transaction servers for several years.
"PROGNOSIS gives us a `dashboard view` of our HP NonStop environment, which is exactly what we wanted for our BASE24 management," says Pretorius.
"It also gives us the option of tracking transactions as they happen. For example, we can immediately see when and where a problem occurs on our POS network, drill-down to identify the root cause of the problem, and take steps to rectify it before it affects our customers. This fits well with our plans to deliver extreme customer service, not only to select customers but across the board."
Developed by ACI, BASE24 drives most of the world`s financial transactions, from POS payments at the supermarket counter to ATM cash withdrawals and deposits.
