The IT arm of the Nampak Group of Companies, NamITech, the first organisation to implement Oracle 11i solutions, will deliver a case study review at the annual South African Oracle User Group (SAOUG) Conference and Exhibition.
Held this year at Sun City from October 28 - 31, the SAOUG Conference and Exhibition will attract over 600 delegates to the event who will hear, first-hand, the NamITech case study.
Key strategists of the Oracle 11i installation, Henry Hartman, Group Programme Manager, of NamITech and Bryan Roestorf, Supply Chain Executive, will deliver a joint presentation on the case study.
"NamITech implemented Oracle 11i in nine months for approximately 150 users across a wide range of modules, within time and budget. During this period, the team also accommodated a company acquisition and restructure," said Hartman.
"We will share the lessons we learnt during the implementation and reveal how a formal process to manage the optimisation phase after 'go-live' is crucial to ensure success."
Hartman supervised the project management of the Oracle 11i implementation, while Roestorf managed the operations and optimisation phase. He supervised the implementation of the supply chain modules (advanced supply chain planning, procurement, inventory, shipping, and invoicing) for the Oracle 11i-based system.
"I am responsible for planning, procurement and logistics within NamITech and will report on the challenges and experiences I encountered with the Oracle 11i implementation," said Roestorf.
"This includes the design of the business processes, conversion to system functionality, testing, and training. Although this was my first ERP systems implementation, I have extensive experience in the areas of financial management, cost management, and logistics management, across a variety of industries."
Roestorf is dubbed the "Oracle Champion" for NamITech. His role encompasses driving ownership, utilisation and optimisation of Oracle within the organisation.
"As such the Oracle support team reports into this role. The Oracle support team drive normal internal support issues, external oracle support, optimisation and enhancement as well as training. This team also drives the CRM processes and business intelligence and reporting for NamITech," he said.
NamITech is a provider of secure technology solutions and value-added applications stemming from the intelligent use of smart cards and the latest security technology such as biometrics and Public Key Infrastructure. The company is very passionate about its investment in Oracle 11i.
"This investment was a strategic one, and was seen as crucial for ensuring our success as an e-business. Some of our key customers are also Oracle users," said Roestorf.
"Given the level of investment we have made in Oracle 11i, NamITech actively manages and invests in its relationship with Oracle Corporation and we see our involvement with the SAOUG as a natural extension to ensuring that we and our fellow Oracle users get the best service possible from the software company."
Last year's SAOUG conference, held in Swaziland in November 2001, saw about 500 Oracle users attend and some 35 papers were presented. This year's conference is set to be an overwhelming success with much interest from delegates within South Africa and from the rest of Africa.
