The industry's first six-bay desktop network-attached storage (NAS) solution for small- and medium-sized businesses has been released by Duxbury Networking, on behalf of its principal, Netgear.
Designed to meet the centralised network storage needs of up to 200-user SMEs, Netgear's ReadyNAS Pro Gigabit Desktop Storage family is said to deliver high availability, high performance, expandability and serviceability in a unit that is easy to use and quick to deploy.
The ReadyNAS Pro product line is available in storage capacities of 1.5, 3.0 and 6TB - broadening the company's ReadyNAS product portfolio.
“For some time, small- and medium-sized businesses have been demanding a high performance, high capacity NAS device tailored to suit their IT infrastructures and budgets,” says Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking.
“The ReadyNAS Pro meets these requirements and enables users across the LAN or WAN to store, back-up and share digital data from a combination of Windows, Macintosh and Linux platforms.
“It also supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and auto-expandable X-RAID2 to provide solid data protection against single or double disk failure,” he adds.
To ensure high availability of stored data, the ReadyNAS Pro features dual redundant Gigabit Ethernet ports for failover protection. Housed in a compact desktop form factor, the ReadyNAS Pro products support up to six SATA II hard drives via six lockable, hot-swappable disk trays.
Three USB 2.0 ports enable the connection of external USB drives, printers and battery backup devices.
With an Intel dual-core processor, ReadyNAS Pro is said to outperform other network storage alternatives in its class - reading at over 108MBps and writing at over 102MBps.
In addition to a Web-based graphical user interface (GUI) and set-up wizard, ReadyNAS Pro features an LCD display that provides quick and intuitive system status readings and incorporates an active system monitoring capability, which checks for abnormal situations or part failures and e-mails system alerts to the network administrator.
The new ReadyNAS Pro network-attached storage solutions include:

* RNDP6310 ReadyNAS Pro 3TB Gigabit Desktop Network Storage (includes three 1000GB SATA drives);
* RNDP6610 ReadyNAS Pro 6TB Gigabit Desktop Network Storage (includes six 1000GB SATA drives)
