The highly contested and prestigious Non-listed Company Awards saw first time entrant Internet Solutions (IS) reaching the top 20. Considering the tumultuous times that the IT industry has experienced over the past few years, IS`s achievements are outstanding.
The award now in its 18th year has done much to raise the profile of non-listed businesses that are described by joint sponsor KPMG, as "the backbone of the economy". The competition criteria are rigorous and well rounded, allowing the judges to assess not only the financial performance of entrants but also other critical elements such as employee and community development as well as entrepreneurial performance.
Chief Executive Officer of IS, Angus MacRobert, comments: "We are celebrating our 10th anniversary this year and to achieve a top 20 placing in these awards caps what has been an extraordinary stretch of business growth for the company.
"We have increased turnover and the bottom line year on year, while at the same time investing in resources to ensure that our solutions remain at the forefront of the latest in the world. Quite honestly, none of this would have been possible without a team of the most fantastic people this industry offers.
"We encourage innovation and a free flow of ideas and are not afraid of experimenting with new thinking. With a stable and growing client base representing the best businesses in the country, plus a dedicated and energetic team of people, we expect to see continued growth in the future."
Business Day, Wits Business School, Proudly South African and KPMG are all sponsors of the award that has seen high profile companies, such as Vodacom and Airports Company SA, walk away with the top position in past years.
Established in 1993 as the country`s first commercial Internet service provider, IS has grown in stature and today attracts 80% of the SA`s top 250 listed companies. IS remains the leading ISP with a market share of over 50%. Probably one of the country`s most successful post-apartheid companies, IS has expanded from being a pure Internet connectivity provider to an innovative and pioneering business with services that include Internet access, VPNs, hosting, dial-up, security and business gateway solutions. Testimony to its recognition as a market leader IS has earned an impressive collection of awards, which includes eight First National Bank "Most Admired" awards, Professional Management Review silver and golden arrow awards, Financial Mail Deloitte & Touche Best Company to Work for Award and even a Loerie award for its design work.
In 2002 IS was certified as a Cisco Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP), the first and only company outside of the US to be awarded this accolade. The CPN-MSSP brand associates IS with the worldwide leaders in Internet security.
