First Xerox iGen3 colour press order from SA

Breakthrough digital press to expand possibilities for Ince
Johannesburg, 21 Feb 2005

After evaluating the worldwide market for digital production print devices, a leading South African commercial printer and corporate communications company, Ince (Pty) Ltd, has become the first company in SA - and in Africa as a whole - to place an order for the Xerox iGen3 Digital Production Press and associated Creo Spire workflow software.

The iGen3, the result of a $1 billion research and development investment that includes more than 300 patents, is a 100-impression-per-minute full-colour digital press that provides benchmark print speed, offset-like image quality, and enhanced paper-handling capabilities.

For 80 years, Ince has been at the forefront of communication-related technological advancement in SA. Services include database management, custom publishing, personalised direct mailing and investor communications. Ince`s specialist digital printing division, formed eight years ago, entered the colour digital print market in 1999.

Russell Parker, divisional managing director of digital, direct mail and security printing at Ince, said: "Our customers are wanting communication partners who demonstrate strategic innovation and delivery commitment. Gone are the days of simply fulfilling a commodity print order."

He continued: "We see the Xerox iGen3 as the key to expanding our colour digital business, particularly for variable information, transactional documents and 1-1 communications where speed and personalisation are key. The Xerox iGen3 will unlock additional potential for providing retail sector mailers and loyalty programme communications."

Anne Mulcahy, Chairman and CEO, Xerox Corporation, in Johannesburg for the introduction of the iGen3 to SA, commented: "Companies like Ince are showing true innovation and leadership as they push the boundaries of what print can achieve."

The introduction of the Xerox iGen3 to SA demonstrates the migration from offset printing to digital technology platforms, which is occurring at a rapid pace, as well as the commitment to the graphic arts industry by Xerox and its distributor Bytes Document Solutions in SA.
