Stalwart of the South African IT industry, FirstNet, has changed its name to Gateway Communications following its acquisition by UK-based GatewayIP.
Gateway Communications is a leading provider of communications services to carriers, multinationals and enterprises throughout Africa and the Middle East.
The company`s managing director, Mike van den Bergh, says the process of bringing the two companies together started in March.
"We have now positioned ourselves as a leading global brand with a consolidated identity. We are a true pan-African service provider and provide services in more than 20 countries on the continent," he says.
With operations dating back to 1991, Gateway Communications is one of the most established operators in Africa and has been responsible for pioneering the delivery of cost-effective voice, data and e-commerce services throughout the region.
The company combines the benefits of local presence, skills and expertise with a global infrastructure to meet the voice and data communications needs of telecommunications carriers and businesses operating within Africa and the Middle East.
In South Africa, Gateway provides the widest range of business network services from the simplest Internet connection to complex business network solutions.
"We play a pivotal role in the implementation of e-commerce strategies and solutions supporting world-wide communication of business transactions and trade documents for our clients," says van den Bergh.
