Fitness routine planned for Health & Racquet Club`s nationwide network

Johannesburg, 23 Mar 2000

The Health & Racquet Club, South Africa`s leading health and fitness group, has contracted DNS Networking (a member of the JSE-listed DiData Group) to manage and maintain its country-wide computer network.

The H&RC network links Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg regional offices with 88 sites throughout the country. It will be administered by DNS using its Managed Private Network (MPN) strategy.

In future, the network will be managed from the DNS Remote Management Centre in Sandton, relieving H&RC of the need to maintain networking skills in house, and allowing existing IT staff to be more productively deployed, says H&RC communications infrastructure manager, Sean Ollis.

"Through the DNS MPN strategy we will also be provided with a range of services geared to maintaining the network`s uptime, with a focus on preventative maintenance - regular network health checks - rather than the break-fix cycle more common to conventional maintenance contracts," he says.

"In partnership with DNS, it is our intention to extend the functional infrastructure of the H&RC network, focus on its strategic importance for the group, and so integrate the network into the revenue generating stream.

"To achieve this level of integration we will address key issues such as operating cost containment and the enhancement of service levels to our members and guests."

Ollis says cost control will be achieved through the streamlining of the resources needed to keep the network infrastructure running, while service levels will be increased through greater efficiency and network uptime.

The H&RC network consists of largely Motorola equipment, including Cascade Frame Relay switched in the regional offices.
