Flock ditches Firefox, looks to Chrome

The social Web browser Flock has migrated away from Firefox to the open source version of Google's Chrome Web browser, Chromium, reports IT Pro Portal.

Flock, originally released in 2007, has had close ties with Firefox, with all previous versions using its tools for Internet publishing, online search and sharing, and communicating on social networks.

The latest version of the Web browser comes with a faster JavaScript engine and integrates with Google for search

IBM opens EGL programming language

IBM is planning to open source the EGL programming language, writes CIOL.

EGL, or the Enterprise Generation Language, is a business-oriented programming language that borrows components from the unified modelling language, designed for building portable, cross-platform applications and services.

IBM plans to open source the compiler, language generators for Java and JavaScript, and its tools.

WordPress 3 available for download

The latest version of the popular blogging platform, WordPress 3, has been released for download, states PC World.

The 13th major release of the software contains over 2 700 changes, including 1 217 bug fixes that were provided by 218 volunteers. One of the major improvements is the integration of WordPress MU into the main development stream.

"WordPress is now becoming one of the most capable blogging platforms out there," says Adriaan Bloem, an analyst for the Real Story Group, a research and consulting firm specialising in content management software.
