Square One Power Solutions, the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) specialist in the JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group, won a flurry of orders to round off 2004.
Total power output of all of the orders amounted to 800kW. All were for APC Silcon UPS equipment that offers three-phase online power protection and ensures high security of power supply.
Included in the contracts were three 160kW units operating in parallel redundant mode for Telecommunications Facilities Management Company (TFMC) in Pretoria as well as 40kW and 60kw units for TFMC at Rosebank and Pretoria respectively.
Square One also supplied a 40kW unit to Amgold; a 60kW unit to Rustenburg Municipality; a 60kW unit to the SANDF, two 40kW units to EXI, for Mozambique`s electricity supply utility; a 40kW unit to Malawi`s electricity supply utility; and a 40kW unit to the Department of Housing in Pretoria.
"The output design of the APC Silcon equipment caters for modern downstream loads and conforms to new standards that require such loads to be power factor (PF) corrected," says Square One Power Solutions managing director Neill Schreiber.
"These units are also able to function over wide voltage and frequency ranges. They are compact, small footprint products that have unity input PF and work at 97% efficiency with less than 5% input harmonic distortion. They handle crest factors of up to 10 to 1 as well as overloads of 200%. Due to the inherent high specification, the units are diesel generator set-friendly and exceptionally cost-efficient."
