FNB Connect, Q-KON SA and Wavion today announced the successful deployment of their Wavion WBS-2400 Base Station in and around Bank City, Johannesburg Central.
FNB Connect commissioned Q-KON SA to design and implement WiFi networks for rural communities providing affordable telecommunications services to FNB's existing range of innovative banking products.
Now city commuters can enjoy high-speed Internet access of up to 22Mbps (WiFi) and VOIP services by making use of Wavion's self-backhaul capability from FNB's POP situated at FNB Towers and the community kiosk at Bank City, 200m away with no line of sight. Wireless Internet access is also available to coffee shop occupants in and around the community kiosk at up to 10Mbps.
Future deployments will see community kiosks deployed in remote rural areas providing affordable wireless internet access, telephone and fax facilities using VOIP and making use of international VSAT platforms and services managed by Q-KON where third generation services are not available.
