FNB Online Banking CEO Lee-Anne van Zyl says the bank has created the first truly scalable banking site on the continent.

First National Bank (FNB) today unveiled its updated, fully-scalable banking site, which automatically detects and adapts to the device being used.

Unlike other banking sites, the revised FNB site is not stripped down for devices with smaller screens or simply compressed to these, says FNB Online Banking CEO Lee-Anne van Zyl.

Van Zyl says FNB has been reviewing banking Web sites across the world for the past two years to benchmark itself. "We currently have over 1.5 million online banking customers and expect this to increase with the new and enhanced platform."

She says the new site was designed to be familiar to customers, but offers a depth of interaction that was not possible without a comprehensive re-engineering project.

Some of the enhancements include an improved user experience; touchscreen-friendly, easy buttons and menus; and responsive design enabling scalability to multiple devices with layered, seamless security.

"We have set out to give FNB Online customers a user experience that builds on everything they already love, is as close as possible to perfect for ease of use and will offer a steadily evolving level of banking intelligence," says Van Zyl.

"We have created a site that may appear to be minimalist, but we have done this to enable intuitive use and as customers engage, they will find an interactive platform."

FNB's banking site was ranked the most popular bank Web site in Africa by Alexa ?The Web Information Company, in April. FNB also claims the highest online banking market share (35%) for the full 2012 year.

The re-launched site will be further enhanced in coming months. According to Van Zyl, FNB will add additional levels of functionality to the site.

The site will be available to the public from Sunday.
