Focal Point Systems Ltd (FPS) is a leading UK information technology software house that developed and launched a practical solution to electronic document management in April 2000 at the Document Management Roadshow.
FPS has appointed Knowledge Focus (Pty) Limited in SA as a reseller of EDMS to further expand international distribution.
The product EDMS is founded on the experiences of FPS as a leading developer and implementer of IT solutions to small, medium and large organisations since FPS`s formation in 1991. FPS has undertaken research, development and implementation of electronic document management solutions to multiple organisations and the practical experiences of such projects have been integrated into the commercially available product EDMS.
Knowledge Focus was formed in August 2000 and markets a range of products to help customers manage their information assets. The company supports and serves organisations which have a need to retrieve information with accuracy and speed. Knowledge Focus concentrates on the Knowledge Retrieval and Knowledge Preservation markets with special attention to the delivery of information for the competitive intelligence and strategic marketing intelligence markets.
EDMS is proven to deliver the full functionality of electronic document management with a remarkably low cost of operation and ownership. Using the latest Web technology, this solution can be configured to satisfy the requirements of large blue chip multi-nationals but is still affordable for use in small/medium-sized organisation or even a single department/project.

* Natural language searching by utilising an industry-leading thesaurus, resulting in faster retrieval of documents that match the meaning of the search parameters but not the same text.
* Concept searching to find all relevant documents even though the document may not use those words. With over 500 000 words in the dictionary and 1.6 million word relationships, RetrievalWare`s Semantic Network pinpoints all relevant meanings without requiring users to think of every possible way of expressing their ideas.
* Fuzzy logic searches utilising Adaptive Pattern Recognition Processing allows words to be found even when the word is misspelled by searchers or within the document.
The integration of the two products brings the reality of fast and accurate information retrieval to SMEs and large organisations without the normally associated high system costs and high costs associated with data input and indexing.
In September 2002, ICT Europe undertook a review of the best enterprise document management solutions on the market.
