The Faculty of ICT at the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria is conducting a unique research project to determine the future role of chief information officers, chief technical officers and chief knowledge officers in South African organisations and companies, and the contribution they can make by becoming the recognised change leaders/agents in their companies and organisations.
The research will also determine the competencies required for this role in the South African context. The research is conducted by Dr Jannie Zaaiman, dean of the faculty of ICT, and Dr Nina Evans, head of the Department of Business Applications and IT Management. The CIO focus group events are being organised by TechnoScene (Pty) Ltd.
For the purpose of this research, focus group discussions will be held with prominent ICT leaders in South African companies and organisations in all major cities in SA. Participants attending these sessions will benefit by benchmarking themselves against peers, obtaining a future view of the changing world of business for their profession, being informed on what international trends are and scoping their own position. The outcome of the research will also be communicated to all participants in the focus group discussions and at an international conference in June.
The issues to be covered in the focus group meetings include:
* How has the leadership role of a ClO changed in the past 15 years?
* How did new technologies get introduced into organisations and how was staff buy-in obtained, leading to a new culture?
* How is the ClO viewed as a key change agent implementer in an African context?
* How are internal client expectations managed?
* How is the future role beyond being a ClO change agent perceived?
Interested CIOs/IT managers/CKOs may attend any of the following events:
