FORE Systems, a worldwide leader in high-performance networking products based on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology, has announced an OEM agreement with Philips Communication & Security Systems, a leading global supplier of security, private communication and related information applications. Under the terms of the agreement, Philips will purchase FORE`s StreamRunner AVA/ATV ATM Video Products for integration into its security surveillance systems.
This alliance teams two industry leaders and provides the benefits of ATM technology to the growing worldwide security surveillance market, enabling Philips to offer price competitive network solutions that are open, and no longer dedicated to a specific application. This agreement also enables an industry first - the ability to transmit full-digital, real-time CCTV (closed-circuit television) images across a wide-area network without loss of picture quality.
"With this announcement, we can now offer our customers a fully-integrated security solution for all audio, data and video functionality," said Paul Teeuwen, Strategic Product Manager, new business development, Philips Communication & Security Systems. "What`s more, a security system running on an ATM network has huge advantages over traditional analogue security systems as it maintains high-quality audio, data and video over long distances. ATM networking is the basis for a total solution and FORE, as the leader in ATM technology, is the right partner to help us bring these exciting new capabilities to the security market."
Philips will take advantage of FORE`s StreamRunner AVA/ATV ATM Video Products to provide security-systems running over ATM networks. StreamRunner AVA/ATV products comprise a state-of-the-art ATM video product family, providing full-motion JPEG video imaging. By using switched ATM cells instead of analog video solutions, the StreamRunner supports a wide variety of networked video applications, from video surveillance and videoconferencing to live video broadcasts across an ATM network.
"Philips` impressive history of developing innovative state-of-the-art security systems, as well as its established position in the market and expertise in CCTV applications, makes it a strong partner for carrying ATM technology to the growing security surveillance market in South Africa, thereby enabling many new customers to realise the power of ATM " said Milton Thorne, Director of Operations, FORE Systems, southern Africa. Philips will market its ATM-based security solutions to airports, casinos, retail outlets, industrial venues and traffic applications.
