FORE Systems has announced a series of hardware and software solutions that confirm and extend the company`s position as a leading provider of high-performance network backbones. FORE is expanding the functionality of its award-winning product line by integrating new features and by extending the value of a high performance network core for Internet computing applications.
"FORE Systems has a long history of building high-performance network backbones," said Milton Thorne, director of operations at FORE Systems southern Africa. "We built much of the Internet backbone, and we have built countless corporate networks that provide our customers with highly reliable, scalable and resilient core networking solutions. The products we announced today are a natural extension of our leadership in those areas."
With today`s series of announcements, FORE Systems has taken its leadership position in enabling Internet computing solutions to the next level. By integrating these new features, FORE is allowing its customers to protect their existing investments in networking solutions, while providing a clear migration path to next-generation performance. Among the specific products and enhancements announced are:
ForeRunner ASX-1200
OC-3c/OC-12c Port Cards for the ForeRunner ASX-4000 - with this new port card, FORE is extending the benefits of a high performance multiservice network core closer to the edge of the network by allowing devices with OC-3c (155 Mbps) interfaces to connect directly to the backbone.
Hierarchical PNNI - the next generation of ForeThought, FORE`s award-winning intelligent internetworking software, supports hierarchical private network-to-network interface (H-PNNI), which allows networks to easily grow larger in size by dramatically simplifying management.
- this new scalable 10 Gbps switch uses its improved switching fabrics and switch control processors to meet the performance needs of customers with demanding Internet computing environments - and it will support OC-48c (2.5 Gbps) interfaces in the second half of CY `99.
"FORE Systems has always been at the forefront of innovation in the area of high-performance networking," said Esmeralda Silva, Research Manager at International Data Corporation. "With these new product offerings, FORE is building on that position by providing real business benefits to its customers through reliable, flexible and scalable networking solutions."
"The products announced today are designed to provide a solid network foundation for running the Internet applications of today and tomorrow," added Joe Pajer, vice president, marketing for FORE Systems. "As those networked applications become more and more complex, and place more demands on the network, FORE Systems is uniquely positioned as the premier provider of the high-performance network architecture that makes those applications run smoothly."
