Former Sun exec critical of CEO
A former Sun Microsystems executive has criticised CEO Scott McNealy for failing to cut jobs faster in response to the dot-com bust and for spending too much on its Java software initiative and acquisition of Storage Technologies, reports News.com.
Former Sun server group head John Shoemaker says while other large technology firms like Cisco and Intel bit the bullet to save what they had and to protect the investments of shareholders, Sun`s reduction-in-force actions were too little, too late.
According to Shoemaker, the failure to make a tough decision to reduce headcount at Sun was the critical event that precipitated Sun`s decline.
Clustering differentiates Java EE
The single most important differentiator between Java EE and competing solutions from Perl, PHP, and .NET is that Java EE servers are easy to cluster.
That`s according to Sys-Con`s Michael Juntao Yuan, who says more hardware can be added to handle more requests without re-coding the application.
Yuan also says easy clustering not only improves Web application performance, but also future-proofs applications for new Internet architectures and business models.
