The former Telkom regional executive for the Eastern Cape, Franklin Pieterse, has been appointed marketing director of communications and IT solutions company Marconi Communications South Africa.
An MBA graduate from Stellenbosch University, Pieterse`s thesis topic was competing for the future of the SA telecommunications industry. With a National Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Pieterse served Telkom in a number of capacities, including the planning, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of telecommunications switching systems; and held various positions in the fields of human resources, projects, operations, customer sales and services.
He played a leading role in the provision of telecommunications services to rural and urban communities in the Eastern Cape and managed large telecommunications access networks in terms of operations, service, installations and repairs.
Pieterse won an International Scientific Interchange (ISI) Scholarship to the USA for 1994/1995 and has participated in a number of International telecommunications training, management and leadership seminars and workshops. He is an active member of the Black management Forum (BMF). A former board member of Business Against Crime in the Eastern Cape, Pieterse was also a board member of the Port Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
