Fortuin goes to IBM

Johannesburg, 02 Jul 2009

IBM has appointed former Hewlett-Packard (HP) SA country head Oliver Fortuin as its new GM for Sub-Saharan Africa, replacing long-standing GM Mark Harris.

Fortuin left HP suddenly in May, after serving just over seven months as the company's local country manager. Speculation at the time was that he was headed back to IBM; however, IBM refused to comment on the possibility. Fortuin previously headed up IBM's PC business in the early 2000s.

After 10 years at the helm, Harris will take on an international position with IBM as its VP for its Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa operations.

"As one of our fastest growing regions in the world, Sub-Saharan Africa is one of IBM's key markets where we are continually increasing our presence and expanding our portfolio of solutions and services," says IBM's GM for the region, Steve Cowley.
