Foschini takes control with SPL-Chariot Cape

Johannesburg, 08 May 1998

In a bid to more effectively manage its large software development environment, Foschini has signed a significant deal with Dimension Group company SPL-Chariot Cape for Intersolv PVCS, a software configuration management (SCM) solution. In order to supplement the current software source control processes, Foschini selected to implement Intersolv PVCS, an SCM product distributed by SPL-Chariot. The Dimension Data company holds 80% of the South African market in this arena. The range of tools will allow Foschini to update its existing processes by facilitating the organisation and protection of its software assets. In addition, Intersolv PVCS will enhance the software development workflow and reduce the of change through the implementation of heterogeneous support. On completion of this implementation, Foschini will be able to manage very complex project issues from their origins right through to their complete resolution. The SPL-Chariot execution of this project began at the end of February and the pilot project for Foschini Data will be followed by roll-out throughout the IT department. Although an implementation of this scale is significant, SPL-Chariot Cape account manager Michelle Stunden says the relationship between SPL-Chariot and Foschini is more important. "This agreement was achieved through a lengthy process of coming to understand the business of Foschini," she says. "A good relationship was formed which allowed the business benefits of implementing this system to be defined. We believe that SPL-Chariot is providing Foschini with the ability to save both time and money while reducing risk and regaining control of their environment." Foschini chose the Cape office of SPL-Chariot due to its ability to provide both regional and national support. In addition, the company has the infrastructure in place to ensure that a project of this scale can be carried out effectively. A long-established relationship with Mariana Bosch, Foschini systems manager, allowed this support infrastructure to be both understood and tested in the past.
