Foster-Melliar launches exclusive ICT training course

Information and communication technology (ICT) is at the heart of South Africa's booming economic development, providing the means of seamlessly implementing new technology into business. Foster Melliar's ITIL ICT Infrastructure Management (ICTIM) Best Practice provides a birds-eye view of all the management elements needed to ensure that the right skills and competencies are in place to fulfil the roles required for infrastructure planning and design, deployment, operations and technical support.

“Lifelong learning is the new buzzword in the education sphere and training programmes such as the ITIL ICTIM course are optimally designed to provide practitioners with a means of keeping strategies and methods fresh and in sync with current trends in the industry. This course prepares candidates to sit the ISEB Infrastructure Management exam, providing candidates with an internationally accredited certificate. The exam is not for the faint of heart and provides a unique challenge for candidates to test their mettle against some of the best in the industry, adding to the credibility and status of the ICT training course,” says Russell Steyn, MD Foster-Melliar.

Appreciation and understanding of business, IT service management and ICT strategies as well as an open exchange of information are essential in achieving effective and proactive management of the ICT infrastructure. The ITIL ICTIM course is optimised to accommodate candidates that typically portray the position of an ICT or infrastructure manager in the industry. As a result, the timeframe of the course was tweaked from five days to three days to accommodate the busy schedules of these individuals. The course also offers an exam preparation day that is available upon booking prior to any four of the scheduled ISEB exam sittings.

The scope of ITIL ICTIM Best Practice covers all the main processes required, their inter-relationships, their dependencies on other service management processes and the key roles and responsibilities that should be present. Key ICTIM processes such as design and planning, deployment, operations and technical support are covered during the course. In addition, the course addresses the interfaces to application management, programme and project management, as well as the very vital interfaces to the ITIL service support and service delivery processes.

ICTIM is an extremely focused training course that is very specific in its content and, in view of this, Foster-Melliar has introduced prerequisite training requirements for prospective candidates. “Research has shown that a staggering 50% of candidates attend training courses that are not optimised to address their current training needs. With ICT training it is absolutely crucial that a candidate has a certain degree of experience and understanding of the subject, in order to prevent candidates from drowning in the training material,” advises Russell.

As a minimum requirement, candidates who wish to attend Foster-Melliar's ICT Infrastructure Management training course need to be:

* Qualified in the ITIL Foundation Certificate
* Formally acquainted with Best Practice procedure and implementation
