Foster-Melliar releases Hummingbird Connectivity 2008

Johannesburg, 31 Jul 2007

Hummingbird Connectivity 2008, completely certified for Windows Vista, is immediately available from Foster-Melliar, offering integrated security features and support for the latest X Window technology.

"Hummingbird Connectivity 2008 is a suite of enterprise-class software focused on providing organisations with secure, high-performing and cost-effective solutions to meet the challenge of integrating heterogeneous systems, such as UNIX or Mainframe, with Windows desktops," says Gavin Forman of Foster-Melliar.

Hummingbird Connectivity includes Exceed, NFS Maestro, HostExplorer and Hummingbird Security product families, and supports 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating systems such as Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista.

Additionally, all products in the suite support Windows Terminal Server Edition and Citrix Presentation Server.

The Hummingbird Connectivity 2008 product family includes several key enhancements to meet customer requirements, including:

Certified for Windows Vista - Hummingbird Connectivity recently received the Windows Vista Certification logo for its suite of products. A selection of Connectivity 2008 products was independently and rigorously tested for compatibility, functionality and reliability on Windows Vista-based PCs, taking advantage of platform features to deliver high performance and ease-of-use. The logo also ensures that Connectivity 2008 products are compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows Vista.

Integrated security - SSL and Kerberos are now available as a standard feature of the new version and no longer requires the installation of additional packages. This simplifies the deployment of the software solution, and ultimately allows users to closely adhere to the corporate security standard without the extra administrative overhead.

Support for latest X11 standard - The Exceed 2008 product family is first in the market to offer commercial support for X11R7.2 - the latest X Window System technology release. It ensures the maximum compatibility with all major UNIX operating systems and Linux distributions, and delivers the full experience of the advanced X environment to Microsoft Windows users.

Native 64-bit product offering - Hummingbird Connectivity is one of the first adopters of 64-bit computing and has been offering products that were natively compiled for 64-bit Microsoft Windows platforms since 2004. The Hummingbird Connectivity 2008 release marks the first time complete coverage of native 64-bit, where support is offered for all product families, which includes Exceed, NFS Maestro, HostExplorer and Hummingbird Security product families.

"Each release of Hummingbird Connectivity grants an opportunity to provide customers with the features and functionality they need for optimum performance," says Forman. "The release of Hummingbird Connectivity 2008 is no exception. The Windows Vista certification logo on the full suite of products, as well as tighter security and maximum compatibility, offers unparalleled product functionality and substantive return on investment to customers."
