Since installing Navision Financials 2.0, together with the back-end veterinary solution VetVision, Fourways Veterinary Hospital`s profitability has increased by a staggering 30%.
The hospital offers 24-hour veterinary care and operates with six veterinarians. It also has a specialist physician and a specialist surgeon, who do both routine and referral specialist work. Fourways Veterinary Hospital also has a large retail section, Prestige Pets, which stocks all pet requirements, from nutrition to over-the-counter products and accessories.
The hospital needed a veterinary software solution that would integrate seamlessly with its financial package. After considering various options, the hospital decided that the Navision Financials solution, together with the veterinary application VetVision, met all their requirements.
"Previously, we used a locally developed solution that initially worked well, but could not integrate with our back-end system," explains Fourways Veterinary Hospital director Dr Alain Carter. "This meant that all the financial information had to be exported to the financial package each time, which was not only time-consuming, but also inefficient.
"Following extensive upgrades prior to Y2K, the system began crashing regularly," he continues. "We were forced to shut down our entire system once a week, and it was often down in between that as well. The hospital runs on a cash-on-delivery basis, but because the system was down so often, business was sometimes impossible and clients regularly left without paying, which meant we had to follow up later in order to secure payment."
According to Carter, Navision Financials 2.0 was selected because of its stability and accurate and varied reporting capabilities. "The application is also easy to use, and provides us with instant financial information at the touch of a button," he says. "Additionally, its strong network capabilities, together with Navision`s excellent backup service, also played a significant role in our final decision."
"More than a business management solution, Navision is built on state-of-the-art technology," says Navision South Africa managing director Keith Mullan. "The built-in design tools can be used to make changes in Navision as the business changes and grows. The application delivers the tools to automate these and other business processes."
The hospital uses VetVision to record patient medical history. "As we examine the animal, its vital signs are recorded directly into VetVision," Carter explains. "We make our diagnosis, dispense the relevant medication and perform any other necessary services, such as x-rays or ultrasound. All this information is automatically linked to Navision Financials, so as soon as the consultation has been completed, the invoice can be printed immediately. The relevant general ledger accounts are updated, and all drug stock levels are accurately controlled through Navision Inventory."
"The Inventory granules lets Fourways keep detailed records of purchases, sales and positive and negative transactions," says Mullan. "Basic inventory includes an item table and ledger to record transaction details, which can be used to provide simple pricing capabilities for inventory items."
"The Vetvision-Navision solution is completely stable, and invoicing and payment occurs at conclusion of the consultation," says Carter. "The system is set up in such a way that it ensures that costs of consumables such as needles and syringes are automatically and recorded."
"Today`s technology must have staying power. Navision Financials helps Fourways Veterinary Hospital keep pace with the rapidly changing business world, ensuring that it continues to provide the highest quality service to its patients and their owners," Mullan concludes.
