Alcatel, the world leader in broadband access, today announced it has been selected by France Telecom, in a three-year frame contract, as one of two global suppliers of digital subscriber line (ADSL/SDSL) equipment. The agreement includes both France Telecom`s domestic and international operations. Alcatel is already France Telecom`s major supplier of DSL in the French market.
The agreement enables France Telecom to introduce symmetric DSL services. Symmetric DSL will improve business broadband access for small and medium-size enterprises across France Telecom`s domestic and international markets.
France Telecom has selected the latest version of Alcatel`s 7300 Advanced Services Access Manager (ASAM), the world`s most widely deployed broadband access platform. The Alcatel 7300 ASAM offers service providers the ability to seamlessly accommodate high-value services such as voice over DSL and multicast video. Alcatel`s solution also includes high-density outdoor versions of the 7300 ASAM, extending DSL coverage into remote areas and increasing DSL speeds in areas of high subscriber concentration.
"This important extension of France Telecom`s broadband footprint and service diversity is a further endorsement of Alcatel`s continuing ability to supply and support profitable broadband services," said Michel Rahier, president of Alcatel`s Broadband Networks activities.
